MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo. (KDVR) — Zebulon Pike spotted the 14,115-foot peak in 1806 and proclaimed it, you guessed it, Pikes Peak.

“We are one of only two cog railroads in the United States. We are the highest in the world,” said Ted Johnson, Broadmoor Manitou Pikes Peak Cog Railway general manager.

“We have a center third rail with a cog wheel underneath the train and the cogwheels where we get all our traction and braking from," said Johnson.
