AUSTIN, Texas — As Democrats continue to push back against an effort to redraw congressional districts, and Texas House Democrats remain out of the state to block a vote in that chamber on the proposed map, the Senate is moving ahead with an identical map.

The Senate Redistricting Committee voted 6-1 along party lines to advance the proposed map after holding a public hearing, during which members of the public had the opportunity to offer input on it.

Senate Bill 4 is identical to the map proposed by the House. The push to redraw the congressional district map follows President Donald Trump's urging of Texas Republicans to redraw the congressional districts to secure five more Republican seats in the U.S. House of Representatives.
