CHEYENNE — Laramie County School District 1 is adjusting its student discipline policy, shifting away from “first offense, second offense,” to a tiered system that would allow administrators more discretion when addressing students’ behavior.

This wasn’t the only action taken by the LCSD1 Board of Trustees on Monday night regarding behavior. The board also voted to put an amended “Seclusion, Restraint, Forcible Physical Contact and Corporal Punishment” policy out for a 45-day review.

The matrices, one for elementary and one for secondary students, are intended to better address behavior as opposed to being a “one size fits all” punitive policy, district officials said.
