AUSTIN, Texas — An Austin couple is suing the city of Austin , the Austin Police Department, the Texas Department of Public Safety and other individuals after their home was damaged during a SWAT standoff with a neighbor.

The couple says the city should pay for the destruction caused during the incident, but has refused to do so.

Joe and Mindy Shield said they are still haunted by a night two years ago, when Austin police used their house as cover during a shootout with their neighbor, Dwayne Brzozowski.

“When I jumped up, a bullet came through the window right next to me,” Joe Shield recounted.
