STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Chris Walsh, who was a beloved and strict organizer of several sports leagues in the borough at one time or another, passed away Thursday after a battle with cancer.
The Staten Island native and Tottenvile resident was 64.
Walsh retired as a longshoreman before working for the Department of Sanitation before retiring from the DSNY a few years back.

In between, he found time for politics and ran for the South Shore City Council as a Democrat in November of 2013, but lost to Republican Vincent Ignizio.
Moreover, Walsh, whose wife Pauline Perry and daughter JoAnne Walsh were Sanitation workers as well, was best known for running the South Shore Softball Association and the South Shore Touch Tackle League at Totten Intermediate
