GASTONIA, N.C. -- Crooked numbers fueled Gastonia’s straight surge on Thursday.
The Ghost Peppers posted a 4-spot in the bottom of the first inning and added a 6-spot in the fifth on their way to an 11-8 win over Charleston in Atlantic League play at CaroMont Health Park.
Down big early, the Dirty Birds (11-16 second half, 41-49 overall) tallied four runs between the fourth and fifth frames to tie the game before Gastonia (16-11 second half, 44-46 overall) burst back in front by scoring six times in the home half of the fifth.
Carter Aldrete drove in five runs and homered twice, including the big blow in the fifth, for the Ghost Peppers. Cole Roederer went deep and knocked in two runs.
Nate Scantlin, Justin Wylie, Aldrete and Roederer tallied two runs apiece.
