Plans to transform the former Homewood jail site into a restaurant in the popular downtown district are dead, following public outcry and a lawsuit.
The Homewood city council this spring approved the proposal from developer Mike Mouron to build a high-end steakhouse that would be surrounded by a public park.
But at a city meeting on Monday, Homewood Mayor Alex Wyatt said that Mouron decided to drop the plan. The city also posted the change in its Facebook page.
“He noted that he no longer wanted to pursue it and try to answer frivolous and very quickly dismissed lawsuits and comments and attacks that have been made on his integrity and others integrity,” the mayor said. “That wasn’t worth it to him, so he doesn’t want to pursue it anymore.”
Some members of the public had raised concer
