PASCO, Wash. – A local hero in Pasco was praised for his quick actions that prevented a potential disaster.
During the city council’s August 6 meeting, Councilmember Leo Perales read a letter from a family who was out of town in rural Montana when a fire sparked by a firework threatened their home.
Nick Garcia noticed the flames, which were rising over six feet high, while driving down Sandifur Parkway around 11:00 p.m.
"He didn't wait for someone else to act," said the grateful homeowner. "He pulled over, jumped the wall into our yard, grabbed our garden hose and fought back the fire himself," Perales read from the letter.
Thanks to Garcia's bravery, the family returned to find their house intact, with only minor damage to their new pool.
