The U.S. Department of Education announced Monday that it will move forward with a civil rights investigation of Baltimore City Public Schools.

The department is acting on a complaint filed last week by the Anti-Defamation League, claiming BCPSS tolerated antisemitic attacks on Jewish students over a three-year period at a number of schools. The schools included Bard High School, where a teacher used a Nazi salute numerous times in the presence of Jewish students.

School officials told WBAL NewsRadio last week that teacher is still employed but no longer has contact with any students. Acting Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights Craig Trainor called the actions appalling and infuriating.
