PITTSBURGH -- It didn’t take Ke'Bryan Hayes long to have a homecoming.
The Gold Glove third baseman returned to PNC Park on Thursday night as a member of the Reds, eight days after they acquired him in a trade with the Pirates . Hayes was in the lineup batting ninth as the Reds and Pirates began a four-game series.
The Reds are in the thick of the pennant race, entering Thursday three games out of the third National League Wild Card spot , while the Pirates are in last place in the NL Central.
Hayes said he has fond memories of his time with the Pirates, who selected him in the first round of the 2015 Draft following his graduation from high school in Tomball, Texas. Yet he hasn’t had much of an opportunity for nostalgia following the trade.
