GRANITEVILLE, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - A week after Palmetto teams opened practices for the SCHSL season, teams put on the pads for their first scrimmages.
Many programs are choosing to face off against opponents they’d rarely schedule in the regular season. That was the case when Midland Valley, led by Brent Dorn, hosted Brian Smith’s Barnwell Warhorses in a 4A vs. 2A showdown.
Both programs are in a similar spot: reloading after major roster turnover. Midland Valley graduated two dozen playmakers from last year’s roster. Barnwell lost several key position players who helped power the Warhorses to a Lower State Championship and a trip to South Carolina State for the 2A finals.
