A driver was killed after a head-on crash in Amador County on Thursday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP said a Ford Mustang was headed southbound on Highway 49 just south of Highway 16 around 1 p.m. when the driver veered off the roadway and went into the right shoulder. The driver then overcorrected and crossed into the northbound lane of Highway 49.
A Toyota RAV4 was traveling northbound at the same time, and the two vehicles collided, killing the Toyota driver at the scene, CHP said.
Officials have not yet identified the driver who was killed, but said she was a 79-year-old woman from Jackson.
CHP said the person driving the Ford was airlifted to Sutter Roseville Hospital. Their condition is unknown.
Highway 49 was closed in both directions in the area of the crash
