YUBA CITY, Calif. —

In 1997, Yuba City had its own outlaw. Known as Sadie to some and Baby to others, this Australian Queensland mix was a local legend.

She was first spotted along a highway where she roamed freely for months. Neighbors cared for her from afar, leaving food and building a doghouse.

Eventually, Sadie's freedom ended. "She didn’t want to be caught until she was ready," one local remarked. Though her days on the run were over, adoption offers poured in, ensuring that she would find a forever home.
