SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Eversource has proposed a pipeline extension to improve natural gas reliability in Springfield and Longmeadow, but the plan faces opposition from the Springfield Climate Justice Coalition.

The proposed pipeline, which would run underground between Longmeadow and Springfield, aims to strengthen distribution and reduce service disruptions during colder months.

Eversource presented information about the project at a meeting held at the UMass Center at Tower Square in Springfield. "We're proposing that instead of Eversource investing this money to support electrification in Springfield," said Naia Tenerowicz, organizer with the Springfield Climate Justice Coalition.
