(WAND) - When Jen Pawol makes history this weekend as the first woman to umpire in a regular season MLB game, think of Decatur, Illinois.

Pawol served as a volunteer assistant with the Millikin baseball team from 2020-22, according to the University's athletic department .

During her time at Millikin, Pawol worked with Big Blue catchers and also umpired the intrasquad games.

The department added that in 2021, Millikin posted its best season in program history with Pawol around, going 31-16, winning the CCIW Tournament and advancing to the school's first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament.

Pawol will umpire the weekend series between the Marlins and Braves at Atlanta's Truist Park and will also be behind home plate in Sunday's series finale.
