A planning inspector has ruled a Kent quarry - some 60m away from the M25 - can be filled in amid fears it could pose risk to the motorway. The work will see 800,000 cubic metres of mostly construction infill brought in by HGVs during a six-year project.
The application for Covers Farm Quarry in Westerham to return the quarry to grassland and build a temporary haulage road, was refused by Kent County Council (KCC). But following an eight-day inquiry and a site visit in June, planning inspector Stephen Normington has allowed the stabilisation and restoration.
Objectors say the work would see 150 to 200 HGV journeys during an 11-hour day. The appeal came from Morants Promotions, owned by Henry Warde, also owner of the land and Squerryes Estate.
