MAYFIELD, Pa. — One of the state troopers shot on Thursday , Trooper Perechinsky, comes from a family steeped in law enforcement.
His father is the Chief of Police in the Lackawanna County community of Mayfield. Newswatch 16 spoke to Mayfield Mayor Alexander Chelik about today's shooting and Perechinsky's heroism.
"I mean, he went beyond the call of duty. I mean he, he was, he was taking care of his, his buddy, and that's what the policemen do, they not only take care of the people in the community, they take care of each other," said Mayor of Mayfield, Alexander Chelik.
Mayor Chelik says he's left messages for Perechinsky's father, and plans to visit the injured trooper in the hospital.
