SPOKANE, Wash. -- Police are responding to a reported stabbing near Spokane City Hall on Thursday evening, according to Spokane Police Department.

Police are telling people to avoid the area.

Police have shut down the Monroe Street Bridge at Summit Parkway and Post Street at Spokane Falls Boulevard.

SPD said the stabbing happened on the stairs between Spokane City Hall and the Numerica Skate Ribbon.

Around 7 p.m., SPD said officers were dealing with a stabbing suspect on the Post Street Bridge, but did not provide any further details.

A 4 News Now crew at the scene witnessed a person sitting on the railing of the Post Street Bridge.

Water rescue crews were in the river below.
