(FOX40.COM) -- Northern California police are warning the public about a clever new scam that is targeting bank accounts. • Video Above: Scams circulating in California

According to the Rocklin Police Department, the new scam starts with a victim receiving a text, email, or call from someone posing as their bank. The sender inquires about fraudulent activity. After the victim confirms the fraud, they are transferred to a fake fraud or customer service department that will convince the person to allow access to a bank account.

"They eventually dupe you into transferring funds to another account via wire, gift cards, or a bitcoin ATM," RPD said. "Or they may ask you to withdraw money from your bank and physically pick up the cash. The money is gone. Thousands of dollars, gone."
