GERMANTOWN, Tenn. - It's the first day of school for kids in Germantown. And it comes as the city prepares for a big money investment into Houston High School.

In other words, the future of the school is looking bright.

The City of Germantown has proposed a $100 million renovation project.

Earlier this month, the city's Board of Mayor and Aldermen joined the Germantown Board of Education for a joint work session. That was when they discussed what the mayor called a once-in-a-generation investment in public schools.

Since the Germantown Municipal School District was formed in 2013, it has received more than $105 million in capital improvements to go toward new construction and deferred maintenance.

Sometime this month, both boards plan to discuss the proposal further.
