MABTON, Wash. – Mabton Mayor Rachel Ruelas, who’s in a close race with the second most votes in her bid for re-election, has announced that most of the missing receipts from a state audit have been found and properly accounted for.
Mayor Ruelas stated that, upon discovering the receipts were missing, she immediately directed her team to review all records. "A vast majority have been found," she said.
The state audit originally revealed that $231,145.14 was unaccounted for in receipts. With the recent findings, approximately $3,150.22 remains missing.
Mayor Ruelas emphasized that there is no evidence of fraud or personal misconduct by herself or her administration.
She explained the situation as "administrative record-keeping errors—not acts of dishonesty or misuse of public funds."
