Chapoquoit Yacht Club sailors last week provided their most dramatic races of the season.

The West Falmouth club’s Sakonnets on July 29 battled nearly 15-knot winds and three-foot waves on Buzzards Bay. In their first race of the season, Joseph Strazzulla and crew Greg Littel in Midnight Magic made their presence felt.

“Healing hard and pounding our way windward, we moved west to approach the windward mark from the north with only seconds apart” from the usually dominant Eye Sweet, said Strazzulla.

The course set by Michael Jackson—balancing his duties as race committee with those of father of the bride for his daughter’s wedding just a few days later—tested the full range of skills of the Sakonnet racers.
