An elderly man has died after after being struck by a car while riding a mobility scooter in Airdrie . ‌

Emergency services were called to Gartlea Road in the North Lanarkshire town at around 4.50pm on Friday, August 1. The incident involved the scooter and a Vauxhall Mokka. ‌

The 84-year-old was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow. He was left fighting for his life after medics described his condition as critical . ‌

He tragically died in the early hours of the morning on Thursday, August 7. The driver of the car , a 43-year-old man, was uninjured.

Police are continuing to appeal for anybody with information or footage that may help their investigation to contact them. ‌
