EL CENTRO – In light of Texas representatives starting the process of redistricting congressional maps, resulting in democrats walking out to refuse to take part in the process, California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced unofficially the idea of holding a special election in his state.

Imperial County Registrar of Voters Lindsay Dale said the special election would be on Nov. 4 to form an independent redistricting commission to prevent an alternative congressional party map.

Dale told Imperial County Supervisors on Tuesday afternoon that this special election possibility is in response to the redistricting efforts by Texas officials.
