The larger-than-life-size bronze statue of King by artist Andrew Luy of Huntsville, Ala., was unveiled July 12 to a round of applause during the dedication ceremony for Unity Corner — at West Morse Boulevard and South Denning Drive in the city’s 23-acre Martin Luther King Jr. Park .
Since then, some city residents and members of the Central Florida community have panned it as “deformed” or “cartoonish” and want it fixed or redone entirely. But many city leaders say they stand behind the artist and his statue — which was approved by King family representatives.
