On this second anniversary of the wildfires that devastated Lahaina and wreaked havoc on West Maui on Aug. 8, 2023, we grieve for those who lost their lives, mourn the devastation wrought on Lahaina town and share the hope and pride of Maui’s survivors, ohana and community leaders who have shown themselves to be resilient and faithful to an intention to not just rebuild, but re-envision their home. Events on Maui take place throughout the day for that purpose (see below).

As the state looks ahead, public agencies and private organizations supported by all islanders must continue to support Maui and its people as they strive to heal, address the challenges that were revealed and emerge from this tragedy with new strengths.
