WEST CHESTER, Pa. -- For more than three decades New Dorp High School alum and Staten Island Sports Hall of Famer Charlie Marsala has been the only local to break the hallowed 4-minute barrier in the mile.
Thursday night, Will Cuthbertson joined the club, and he did it in style!
Cuthbertson, who runs for the Empire Elite track club, took command in the West Chester Elite 1-mile race, winning the event over a field of 11 runners but most importantly crossing the line in a time of 3 minutes, 56.76 seconds, topping Marsala’s time of 3:58.73 indoors in 1991.
“So happy to be in the Staten Island Sub-4 club!” said a jubilant Cuthbertson, an alumni of Susan Wagner HS and Wagner College. “I felt really good out there.”
Focused and concentrating on the pace, Cuthbertson recorded splits of 60.44
