CARMEL – The Putnam County Republican Committee has decided against fielding a candidate to run for sheriff this fall other than incumbent Sheriff Kevin McConville who has announced he will not seek reelection to a second term due to health concerns.

GOP Chairman Andres Gil reported Thursday that the party’s vacancy committee, which was designated to fill any vacancy occurring in the race, initiated a process to interview potential candidates. “The committee received 30 resumes and letters of interest and conducted 11 interviews of the most qualified candidates to run for the position in the event we were able to fill a vacancy on the ballot.
