The area high school football season begins two weeks from Friday. With that, we look at the biggest games of the upcoming regular season.

Games were selected based on intrigue and significance. Conference titles no longer necessitate priority seeding for NCHSAA playoffs , making league matchups less valuable than in years past, but they still carry weight on this list.

1. Dudley at Grimsley, Oct. 24, 7 p.m.

The long-awaited, late-season matchup could mean a Metro 6A/7A Conference championship and city supremacy. It pits two of the area’s top coaches in Dudley’s Steven Davis and Grimsley’s Darryl Brown.
