STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. — The daughter of a woman who drowned while trying to rescue her child in a Stone Mountain lake is now seeking support from the community in the aftermath of the tragedy.

Maria Elvia and her children were at Stone Mountain Park on Saturday when they stepped onto a rock to try and find Maria's husband. In a horrible turn of events, Maria's youngest daughter, Clara, slipped off the rock and into the water below.

With a mother's instincts, Maria jumped into the water to save her child, even though she did not know how to swim. Both mother and child began struggling in the deep waters.

Maria's son, Elvis, then jumped in. He managed to save Clara, but Maria was heartbreakingly swept away and couldn't be saved in time. Stone Mountain Police responded to the scene, and Ma
