POCAHONTAS COUNTY, Iowa – A head-on collision killed one person Thursday.

The Iowa State Patrol says it happened just after 12 pm on Highway 4 in Pocahontas County. A 2005 Subaru Impreza driven by Darwin Benjamin Rosales Castillo, 31 of Westminster, Colorado, was heading north and a 2024 Ford Explorer driven by Ronald Meyer, 65 of Pocahontas, was southbound.

The State Patrol says the Impreza crossed the center line for unknown reasons and crashed into the Explorer roughly 2000 feet south of the 600 th Street intersection.

The crash report says Meyer was wearing his seat belt and was injured, while Castillo was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene. The State Patrol says Meyer’s injury did not require him being taken to a hospital.
