A Palo Alto County man who is not a U.S. citizen has been found guilty of illegally voting in local elections four years ago.

Prosecutors say Irving Ahumada Geronimo, 35, was a legal resident, but was not naturalized when he registered to vote and cast ballots in November 2021 elections for Graettinger City Council and the local school board. He was found guilty Wednesday, Aug. 6, of two counts of first-degree election misconduct.

The case is the first to go to trial of at least six Attorney General Brenna Bird has brought since taking office in 2023 , charging individuals with illegal voting during a period spanning from 2021 to 2023.
