ATLANTA — Two MARTA police officers were hurt late Thursday after a confrontation with a man at the Five Points station in downtown Atlanta turned into a shooting, authorities said.

The incident began around 11:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, when two MARTA police officers spotted a man urinating near a platform inside the station, according to MARTA officials. Police said the man refused to cooperate, and when officers attempted to handcuff the man, the man pulled out a gun and fired several rounds.

An officer was shot in the arm, and he was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for surgery. Another officer fired back and was grazed in the knee by the suspect, and is suffering from hearing loss from the round being fired close to her ear. She is expected to be released soon, according to Atlanta
