POUGHKEEPSIE – City Councilman Christopher Grant, 37, who represents the Sixth Ward, was arraigned on an assault charge Thursday at lunchtime in City Court. He is accused of physically striking a senior citizen. The assault charge is considered a violent felony in New York and is punishable by a prison sentence of 2 to 7 years if convicted.

Grant was originally charged with the violation of harassment following an incident at a Caribbean Fest that he sponsored at the Poughkeepsie waterfront last weekend.
