A jail officer at the Porter County Jail who was fired last month for allegedly conspiring with inmates to smuggle contraband into the facility, including an illicit controlled substance, now faces criminal charges.

Johnny Maynor III, a Merrillville resident who had worked at the jail since March 2023, was formally charged Tuesday with felony trafficking with an inmate where the article trafficked is a controlled substance and official misconduct, online court records show. He was also charged with misdemeanor trafficking with an inmate.
