Hoosier motorists preferring a sleeker Indiana license plate to display on the back of their vehicles now have the option of purchasing a "blackout" plate.
The new design is a solid black license plate with white letters. There's no covered bridge, blue sky, American flag, college logo or any other imagery.
"People are constantly looking for fun ways to express who they are, and this is one way they can do that," said Kevin Garvey, commissioner of the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
The new design puts Indiana among a growing number of states offering a blackout plate, including Iowa and Minnesota, after Hoosier lawmakers this year authorized the BMV in House Enrolled Act 1390 to sell plates with alternative designs or color schemes.
