Following the busy City of Dothan election season, Houston County Commission Chairman Brandon Shoupe brought to the commission’s attention that it might be time to explore a policy regarding campaigning on county property.

“We have historically allowed candidates to put up signs, I think on Election Day, but we don’t have a policy on the matter,” Shoupe said. “I don’t think we want the farm center to become a dumping ground for political signs that we have absolutely no control over.”

After bringing this notion to the administrative meeting discussion, District 4 Commissioner James Ivey provided city guidelines for campaign material. Ivey said he brought them so other commissioners could consider using them as a possible framework for a county policy.
