RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — A pedestrian was killed in a crash in the Christiana community early Friday morning.

The crash happened in the 4600 block of Shelbyville Highway near Christiana Elementary School around 5:30 a.m.

According to the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office, Shelbyville Highway is closed in both directions between Richmonds Retreat and Walnut Grove Road.

The closure is expected to impact motorists traveling to Christiana Middle School and Christiana Elementary School.

It is not known when the roadway will reopen to traffic.
