MAINE, USA — The Maine Department of Public Safety announced Thursday that it has created a new statewide elder justice investigator position aimed at improving the response to crimes targeting older adults.
Funded through the federal Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant, the position was designed to address the growing and often complex crimes involving elder abuse and exploitation.
Kennebunk Police Officer Candice Simeoni was appointed to the role, the department said.
Simeoni, who officials say has extensive law enforcement experience and a strong background in supporting vulnerable populations, will assist police departments across Maine in identifying, investigating, and prosecuting elder crimes.
