CHILLICOTHE, OH — The Ross County Health District (RCHD) has confirmed the first positive tests for West Nile Virus (WNV) in local mosquito populations this season. Mosquito pools collected from Concord Township, Green Township , and the city of Chillicothe have tested positive for the virus.

Health Commissioner Janelle McManis and Director of Environmental Health Kelly Spindler announced the results, which were received earlier this week. While no human cases have been reported , officials are urging residents to take preventive action.

“It’s not unusual to see West Nile in mosquito samples during the summer,” said Spindler. “The key is for the community to stay alert and take steps to avoid bites and reduce breeding areas.”
