I am your neighbor, a Syracuse University grad and a member of the greater Syracuse community. I am also a federal worker who was fired by the Trump administration. For more than 17 years, as a member of the U.S. Foreign Service and an employee of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), I represented the United States overseas and worked to deliver American assistance in some of the world’s most remote, poverty-stricken and conflict-prone locales. I served across Republican and Democratic administrations. When I was not overseas, I lived with my family in Marcellus.

I have noticed that many Central New Yorkers seem to think that the gutting of federal agencies is a Washington problem that will not affect us.
