BELLEVUE, Wash. — A standoff ended with police shooting at a suspect at a Bellevue apartment complex early Friday morning, according to the Bellevue Police Department.

Residents at an apartment complex called 911 around 8:15 p.m. Thursday to report that a man was charging at people with a sword.

When police pulled up to the scene, the suspect barricaded himself in his apartment. SWAT and negotiators arrived on scene to assist when the man began shooting at officers with what appeared to be a "high-velocity air rifle" firing "metal projectiles."

Police officers shot at the suspect around 12:30 a.m. Washington State Patrol confirmed Friday evening the man died.

A Bellevue police spokesperson said the department and its crisis response unit had previous experience with the suspect.
