ATHENS, Texas — The Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center is closed to visitors indefinitely as of Friday, Aug. 8, due to unforeseen circumstances and safety concerns.

Officials with the facility announced the temporary closure Thursday but did not provide specific details about the cause or the nature of the safety issue. The center had just reopened in July following renovations.

The center, which is operated by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, is a popular destination for educational programs, aquariums and fishing experiences focused on freshwater conservation.

“We look forward to welcoming you back soon and apologize for any inconvenience,” officials said in a statement posted on the center’s website and social media.
