Several advocacy groups and legal cannabis dispensary owners rallied at City Hall on Friday, calling on lawmakers to remedy a decision that has thrown the industry into chaos.
Under state law, cannabis dispensaries cannot be located within 500 feet of a school. But last week, state regulators said a mistake had been made: they’d been measuring wrong all these years. More than 150 dispensary locations statewide were too close to schools and out of compliance with the law.
Osbert Orduna, the founder and CEO of The Cannabis Place dispensary in Queens, and Kaelan Castetter, the managing director of the Castetter Cannabis Group, which advises cannabis entrepreneurs, joined NY1’s Bobby Cuza on “Inside City Hall” Friday to discuss more.
Orduna is one of the store owners directly affected.
