Plans to build 200 homes on land north of March Road in Coates have been rejected by Fenland District Council. The decision was taken on Thursday, August 7 after the developers, Barratt David Wilson Homes, submitted the application in October 2024.

The proposals were for a 11.2-hectare field to the north-east of Coates. Currently in agricultural use, the site is bordered by residential developments across March Road to the south, as well as four homes to the west.

Alongside the 200 proposed houses, ranging in type from two-bed terraced properties to five-bed family homes, the application included a children’s play area, public open space, and safeguarded land for a new primary school. The site would have been accessible by car through a single new exit from March Road.
