After a decade-long wait for justice, a North Carolina judge lowers the $500,000 bond for a man accused of sexually battering a child.

A 72-year-old man from North Carolina was arrested on August 1 for two counts of sexual battery of a victim under 12, culminating a ten-year investigation by the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO). The arrest, however, was followed by a controversial decision from a North Carolina judge to lower the suspect’s bond from $500,000 to just $35,000.

The case against Kermit Booth, of Franklin, North Carolina, began on Valentine’s Day in 2015 when the mother of the victim contacted law enforcement.
