Lawmakers involved in the crafting and passage of new legislation that makes it easier to prosecute crimes related to deed theft said it sends a clear message: Anyone who commits or attempts to commit the crime will face the full force of the law.

This week, New York Attorney General Letitia James announced charges against two people accused of stealing a Kew Gardens Hills home through deed fraud, marking the first case filed under a new law that strengthens prosecution of such crimes .
