A human case of West Nile virus has been confirmed in Louisville.
The Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness put out the notice Friday morning.
They say this is the first confirmed case in a human so far this year.
There have been multiple reports of mosquitoes testing positive for the virus in the county in the last couple of months.
"West Nile virus has been present in mosquitoes for years. We work year-round to reduce the mosquito population and we continue to urge everyone to protect themselves against mosquito bites," Louisville’s Chief Health Strategist Connie Mendel said in a news release. "No matter what ZIP code you live in, please take precautions to avoid being bitten."
