PILSEN — A group of friends is crowdfunding to open an independent movie theater and café in Pilsen.

Tesseract Cinema is raising $50,000 to cover opening and three months of operational costs for a movie theater and cafe in Pilsen, according to its IndieGoGo fundraising page. A location is yet to be selected, though the group is looking at buildings near the 18th Street Pink Line station.

Josh Oakley and a group of friends formed Tesseract Cinema to open a micro-cinema where neighbors can enjoy films, local filmmakers can show their work and people can expand their love for cinema, Oakley said.
