NEW ORLEANS — A Gretna man has been booked with second-degree murder in the death of his 4-month-old son after authorities said the boy suffered both recent and older head injuries inconsistent with the father’s explanation.

As our partners at report, Nicholas Pogozelski, 26, was initially arrested June 25 on a charge of second-degree cruelty to a juvenile after his son, Kamari Jones, died from a head injury following a 10-day hospital stay, Gretna Police Deputy Chief Jason DiMarco said.

Pogozelski told police he called paramedics to his home on June 17 after the baby rolled off an air mattress and hit his head, DiMarco said. Kamari was taken to a hospital, where he remained in critical condition until his death June 27.
